Paleogeography of in North-eastern Bulgaria region during Miocene

The northeastern Bulgaria was dry land in the earliest Miocene. In the end of Tarhan age there is a short time sea transgression. The Varna-Baltchik depression was already a fact and there were deposited thick layers with mudstone full of fossilized foraminifers/fig.1/. In the south Dobrusha strait sediment was thin organic limestone with fossilized fauna, which indicates for shallow sea/ Karapelit formation /. In the beginning of Tchokrak age there was quite big regression and the basin in northeastern Bulgaria was situated only in Varna-Baltchik depression.
