Our last trip to the south Bulgarian villages - Ognianovo and Satovtsha was really impressive. That part of our country is a unique oasis not only for modern species, but also for fossil plants, invertebrates and mammals. There is quite a big abundance of fossil leaves, fishes and insects. The Picermi fauna is well preserved near village Hadji-dimovo ( southeast by town Gotce Deltcev ). Here we will represent you some of the most impressive finds, which haven't been shown in our web-site so far. Fossil leaves are well conserved in clay -carbonate sediments in coal-mine near v. Ognianovo. That kind of deposits remains of a paleo basin existed in the region during Miocene. In these clay - carbonate sediments you can find not only leaves, but also branches, seeds, dragonflies and even fishes/ you can see them here, we suppose that they're mainly from Cypriniformes /. The abundance of fossils is glamorous! It was a region with hot tropical weather. Antelopes, elephants and origin of modern horses/ hiparions/ came at its shore to drink fresh water/ visit Assenovgrad museum to see these animals' skeletons /. The muddy ground gave excellent conditions for their fossilization.
